Israel’s National Commemoration Conference Opens in Jerusalem

The Israel Ministry of Defense’s Nationa Commemoration Conference opened this morning in Jerusalem, bringing together senior government and defense officials to discuss the role of remembrance in Israeli public life and the responsibility to pass it on from generation to generation.
The conference, initiated by the Ministry’s Families, Commemoration and Heritage Department, addressed the evolving landscape of memorial culture, including the impact of social media, the role of the press, and the relationship between memory and Jewish identity worldwide.
Among the highlights: the announcement of a first-of-its-kind national digital memorial initiative, designed to make the legacy of Israel’s fallen accessible to younger generations.
Senior participants included President Isaac Herzog, Defense Minister Israel Katz, IDF Chief of General Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, and the heads of leading bereaved families’ organizations.
